Our beloved friend and trap shooter , John Winters Jr. passed away peacefully Wednesday with his wife Charlotte and dog JD at his side.

WINTERS, JR, JOHN D. On May 19, 2010 JOHN DOUGLAS WINTERS, JR. passed away at is home after a long illness. John was born in Cumberland, MD to the late John D. Winters, Sr., and Orlena Neall Winters. He was employed with McLean Construction Company for 30 years. John was very active with the Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center and the ATA (Amateur Trapshooting Association). John recently supervised renovations as a volunteer to improve trapshooting fields throughout the facility. He also unselfishly helped all new shooters break their targets; teaching and coaching new and competitive shooters improve their skill. He has shot 81,100 single targets, 76,000 handicapped targets, and 50,500 doubles. John shot competitively since 1972, and has won hundreds of trophies during that time. For the past three years, John has been president of the Southern Maryland Winter Trap League. In addition to being a gun enthusiast, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and yard work. John is survived by his wife of 31 years, Charlotte; children, Orlena Solano, Roxane Winters, John D. Winters, III, Jason D. Winters, William Ziegler, and Tammy Eichelberger; grandchildren, Stacie, Kimberly, Makayla, Amanda, Shannon, Katelin, Shane, Heather, Selena, Jeffery, Joshua, Donna, Michaela, Edward, III, Destiny, and Corey; great-grandchildren, Shelbee, Levi, Shandee, Caden, Madison, Jeffery, Lilly, Allen, Keelly, and Ellie; and his faithful companion, JD. The family will receive visitors at the family owned Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, PA, 1 2nd Avenue S.W. (at Crain Highway), Glen Burnie, from 7-9PM on Monday.
